Our story

Mayfair Bakery and Patisserie has been part of Port Adelaide since 1870, operating from the historic Bower Buildings, originally commissioned by future Port Adelaide Mayor David Bower. For more than 150 years, Mayfair has continued to trade from the same heritage shopfronts as a working bakery.

Proudly South Australian family owned and operated, Mayfair has endured generations of change — from the early port days and world wars to economic upheavals and modern challenges — while remaining a local favourite.

Originally feeding sailors, sea captains and wharf workers, Mayfair has grown into one of Australia’s oldest and most loved bakeries, with traditional recipes and baking methods that continue to draw customers to the Port.

Mayfair Bakery and Patisserie proudly calls Port Adelaide home and acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional custodians of the land on which it continues to bake.
